Call of Duty players<\/a> have been waiting for the franchise to leave last-gen consoles behind for quite some time. The versions on PS4 and Xbox One don\u2019t run well, and there\u2019s a perennial feeling that old hardware is holding the annualized blockbuster shooter series back in some way<\/a>. Well, those players have finally gotten their wish. Activision shot down recent rumors that this year\u2019s Call of Duty, rumored to be Modern Warfare 4, might appear on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot sure where this one started, but it\u2019s not true,\u201d the series\u2019 social media account posted on X<\/a> on Monday. \u201cThe next Call of Duty is not being developed for PS4.\u201d Well, the rumor in question had come from sometimes Call of Duty leaker HeyImAlaix who claimed over the weekend<\/a> to be \u201chearing that MW4 is currently being playtested on PS4.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been 12 years since the franchise first started to appear on PS4 and Xbox One and six years since it started appearing on PS5 and Xbox Series X\/S, making it the longest that Activision has ever gone into a new console generation while still supporting the old one. The only bad news is that millions of people do still play on PS4, and those players will no longer be able<\/a> to stay looped into the series\u2019 latest multiplayer mode without shelling out for a new system.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, it\u2019s the worst timing ever for that, with both PS5 and Xbox Series X\/S costing over $100 more than they did at launch. Gaming PC prices have also skyrocketed thanks to RAM And GPU shortages. The good news is that Xbox Game Pass just recently got a price cut. The bad news is that it will no longer get new Call of Duty games day-and-date<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While fans wait for Activision to officially reveal the next Call of Duty heading into the summer, one big question is whether it will finally appear on Switch 2.
