13Sports took a behind-the-scenes tour of The Club at Chatham Hills, where the first-ever LIV tournament in Indiana will be held.<\/p>\n

WESTFIELD, Ind \u2014 LIV Golf is taking over Indianapolis<\/a> this month.<\/p>\n

Fans will get a chance to see golfers like Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, and Bubba Watson<\/a> all take part in LIV Golf Indianapolis Aug. 15-17. The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield will serve as host for the individual championship finale.<\/p>\n

Tournament director Tim Flaherty tells 13Sports that LIV has been keeping an eye on Indianapolis for years. Now, it is finally becoming a reality.<\/p>\n

“A lot of events come to Indianapolis because they get supported, and that’s what we found. Indianapolis has been a great choice for LIV Golf,” he said. “We filled the volunteer ranks within two weeks. It’s no secret that Indy is a great sports town, and we are thrilled to be here for LIV.”<\/p>\n

“It’s really, really exciting because there’s a lot of great energy and there are a lot of people who have been working on this. It’s been a heck of a year getting everything ready to go,” Betsy Henke Garfield of Henke Development Group said. “It started initially as, we were really proud for Chatham Hills and for Pete Dye’s legacy. But very quickly, when you’re working with folks who have never been to Indiana, you find yourself representing the state very fast. I think that’s just been a really cool honor. It makes us very excited, you know, we’re a sports town and a sports state, so we’re excited for them to experience what this city and what this area is all about.”<\/p>\n

Preparations are currently underway up in Westfield in an effort to transform this golf course into, essentially, a mini-city ahead of this exciting event.<\/p>\n

“These golf courses aren’t built to host basically a small city,” Flaherty explained. “You have to bring hot food and cold ice out to golf holes that aren’t prepared for it at all. We start from the ground up. I don’t think people really understand the depth of it. The members here have been great. We’ve been here a couple of months with the build. The residents around here couldn’t have been nicer. It’s a big inconvenience for them, and we understand that. They have been tremendous for us and have welcomed us with open arms.”<\/p>\n

Part of the spectacle will be stadium seating on the 11th hole, deemed the party hole, which includes a DJ, a bar, and seats surrounding the par three. The 17th green, the Dye Club, features upgraded hospitality structures.<\/p>\n

What makes LIV Golf different is its fan focus on a family-friendly and fun-filled event. That leads us to the building of “fan village.” A DJ, a bar, interactive games for kids of all ages, arts and crafts and even a petting zoo.<\/p>\n

It all culminates in Club 54 on the 18th green \u2014 the nicest hospitality suite on the course. A beautiful view, LED boards going up across the course, it is truly a unique setup for what is proving to be a jam-packed weekend.<\/p>\n

“There’s a lot going on,” Flaherty said. “This is for the whole family. The goal of LIV Golf is to bring more people into the game of golf. We’ve got a much younger demographic than a traditional golf tournament, and we try to cater to young people and families.”<\/p>\n

“It’s an incredible amount of detail and logistics to pull something off like this and to have a big event,” Henke Garfield said. “Their team has been really great to work with, really eager to connect with local vendors, and really develop a relationship with other sports folks here in town.”<\/p>\n

Flaherty said the reception from Indianapolis, Westfield residents, and sports fans from all across the Midwest has been exceptional \u2014 even telling WTHR that this will be the biggest LIV event to date.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We’ve had unprecedented ticket sales here in Indianapolis from the start. We’re expecting about 15,000 people per day,” he shared, “We have had a great response.”<\/p>\n

That response necessitating an expanded hospitality footprint within the course for the tournament. Overall, both Flaherty and Henke Garfield are excited to see what LIV Golf Indianapolis looks like.<\/p>\n

“I think from what has been built here, we have exceeded expectations for sure,” Flaherty said. “It’s time for Indianapolis to really show their colors in the golf world. There’s not a regular golf event here. Things have been great at Crooked Stick \u2014 well, this is a new player in town here. Chatham Hills is a great layout, it’s Pete Dye’s last design, so I would encourage fans to come out. When you have people like Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau playing in an event, it’s going to be a competitive golf event.”<\/p>\n

“This is something that is really unique that is coming back to Indy. We haven’t had professional, elite-level golf here in over a decade,” Henke Garfield said, “I think it’s just a great way to come and experience golf. It’s all about coming and enjoying the game, and that’s what we want people to come and do. This is Pete Dye’s final course that he designed and built, and we want to highlight that.”<\/p>\n

Riley Green and Jason Derulo will be performing concerts<\/a> \u2014 free to those who bought tickets for golf \u2014 on Friday, Aug. 15 and Saturday, Aug. 16, respectively.
