Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac rose more than two feet since early April, peaking around April 19.

City officials urge residents to report flood damages by calling 211 or using the Michigan State Police portal to secure potential assistance.

The significant rise in water levels, combined with a lift station going down, contributed to the widespread flooding.

City Manager Marcus Peccia said the city continues to monitor affected areas and prepare for any further flooding as they navigate the current state of emergency.

Water levels in Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac are currently dropping approximately half an inch per day.

However, City Manager Peccia noted that it is “anyone’s guess” how long it will take for the lakes to return to a comfortable level, especially given strong winds.

Peccia said three pumps are actively removing water from the Chestnut area and North Boulevard. He added that high winds made it difficult for the pumps to keep up along North Boulevard due to waves coming over the lake.

City officials emphasize the importance of public safety, asking residents to respect temporary road and park closures. Numerous areas remain closed, including North Boulevard from Chestnut to 115, Alexander and Newland from Boulevard to Chestnut and the Clam River Greenway. Kenwood Park and city boat launches on Chestnut Street and in Kenwood Park are also shut.

Meanwhile, several roads have since opened, including Leeson North of Division, Division Street and Colfax Street.Residents are urged to self-report all damages, regardless of severity, to help the city secure more assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Cindy Unger, who owns two rental properties, expressed the challenges of early reporting. “I didn’t know the information because it was too early on to assess what the damage was,” Unger said. “So I just gave up. And maybe people are doing that too, waiting until they can assess the damage themselves to the basements or foundations.”

Peccia advised that residents should report what they can, as they can always add to the report later.

The Wexford County Emergency Manager reported less than 200 damage reports countywide at a town hall last week, highlighting the need for more residents to come forward.

The Cadillac Community Foundation has funded dumpsters for debris removal from flooded homes, located at the south end of Newland, the north end of Alexander and on Leeson.

Peccia noted that while assistance for recovery efforts is not yet certain, various groups are ready to help once the floodwaters recede.

CADILLAC — The City of Cadillac remains under a state of emergency following historic flooding that left many…

[47
192,79
post-625891","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-environment","tag-science
["GET
