\nMany Colorado schools and some universities have opted to close on Wednesday due to a powerful late season snowstorm moving through the state<\/a>. \n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\nThe storm system is bringing heavy, wet snow that will last through Wednesday, with the highest accumulation in the mountains and foothills. Some of those areas saw as much as 15 to 20 inches of snow Tuesday night with more piling up into Wednesday afternoon. \n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\nRoad conditions from the mountains, foothills down across the Eastern Plains will be slick and snow covered heading into Wednesday morning. In the Denver metro area, some of the icy spots will be unplowed neighborhoods along with bridges and overpasses. \n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\nDenver Public Schools, Aurora Public Schools and Jeffco Public Schools, three of the largest districts in the state, announced that classes will be canceled due to the inclement weather. DPS says all school-related events and activities are canceled on Wednesday, except for CHSSA-sanctioned competitions. Many other districts also called off classes, including Douglas County and Boulder Valley. \n<\/p>\n

\nPoudre School District in Northern Colorado was one of the first school districts to announce closures with this spring storm. \n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\n“Due to forecasted heavy wet snowfall and hazardous road conditions, all Poudre School District schools will be closed Wednesday, May 6. This will not be a remote learning day,” the district said. \n<\/p>\n

\nColorado State University will be closed on Wednesday. The final day of classes for the spring semester<\/a> there is Friday.\u00a0 \n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\nBefore announcing the campus closure late Tuesday, CSU said that the Oval at Colorado State University would be closing early due to the weather. \n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


\n“The Oval will be closed starting at 6 p.m. today due to wet, heavy snow on tree branches. Barricades will be placed to ensure safety. The Oval will remain closed tomorrow for further assessment. The University will continue to monitor the weather situation and provide updates on operations if necessary,” the university said. \n<\/p>\n

\nThe University of Colorado Boulder campus will also be closed, but there are few students currently on campus at CU. The last day of final exams was last week<\/a>. \n<\/p>\n
