That speculation has centered on the Cardinals, the only other team that still doesn\u2019t have a clear starter \u2014 or two obvious in-house candidates to compete for the job.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Weinfuss of ESPN asked \u201ca source\u201d if the talk \u201cwas real.\u201d The response was this: \u201c<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/joshweinfuss\/status\/2051787156658528531?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Not at all<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no surprise. If the Cardinals were going to make a play for Rodgers, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/aaron-rodgers-and-the-cardinals-make-sense-at-one-level-no-sense-at-another-level\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">something would have surfaced by now<\/a>. Despite the links to coach Mike LaFleur and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, the truth is that the Cardinals face a stiff challenge in 2026 \u2014 one that would make it difficult for Rodgers to cap his career with a playoff berth.<\/p>\n<p>And so the options continue to be: (1) the Steelers; or (2) retirement. And while a serious injury to a starter in the next two months could change that, the UFA tender will give the Steelers exclusive negotiating rights for Rodgers as of July 22.
