Hayden Panettiere came out as bisexual in an Us Weekly<\/a> interview on Wednesday. \u201cI\u2019m comfortable to confidently say that, yes, I am bisexual,\u201d Panettiere, who writes about her sexuality in her upcoming memoir, told the magazine. \u201cI said it!\u201d She added that writing the book, which also covers her experiences with addiction, domestic abuse, and loss,<\/a> motivated her to come out.<\/p>\n Panettiere told the magazine that she\u2019s chosen to be \u201ccompletely brutally honest\u201d about her sexuality now, because it never felt like the right time before, and she\u2019d never been encouraged to \u201cbe myself.\u201d She didn\u2019t want her coming out to be seen as part of a fad or \u201cjumping on the bandwagon,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was always the fear of not being perfect, and what my team was going to think about it, what the public\u2019s opinion was going to be about it.\u201d While Panettiere said she has had relationships with women, she never let herself become fully emotionally invested. \u201cBecause then if I did fall in love, that wasn\u2019t something that I wanted to ever have to hide,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n The actor wanted to make sure that, whenever she did come out, she was able to tell her story in a way that people understood. \u201cOn one hand, it\u2019s sad that I had to wait till I was 36 years old to share that part of me,\u201d she said. \u201cBut better late than never, right?\u201d<\/p>\n Stay in touch.<\/p>\n The latest in style, self, culture, and power in your inbox.<\/p>\n Vox Media, LLC Terms and Privacy Notice<\/p>\n
