\n\t\u201cI think the dance floor is dead\/So now we\u2019re making rock music.\u201d Goodbye Brat Summer<\/a>, hello Rock Spring! Charli XCX<\/a> has returned with the new single, \u201cRock Music.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tCharli dropped the track hours after her friend, the Dare, debuted it<\/a> at his opening set for PinkPantheress in Brooklyn. Featuring her collaborators A.G. Cooke and Finn Keane (formerly known as EasyFun), the single erupts with a blazing guitar riff, as Charli takes the mic: \u201cMe and my friends\/We go out, we take pictures\/We make stuff together, and sometimes we cry\/We kiss each other, real incestuous vibes.\u201d The singer unveiled the song alongside a black-and-white video showcasing her roaming city streets and smoking next to giant piles of cigarettes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe new song arrives days after Charli posted footage<\/a> of her recording \u201cRock Music,\u201d inside Paris\u2019 Rue Boyer Studios in Oct. 2025. The cheeky caption read, \u201ca video of me making a song called \u2018rock music\u2019 that is not actually rock music which is funny because I never said I was making a rock album.\u201d She was referring to her recent British Vogue cover<\/a>, and the magazine\u2019s description of her next chapter \u2014 the follow-up to the massive Brat<\/a> \u2014 as a \u201crock reinvention.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFor me, it\u2019s fun to flip the form,\u201d she said in the interview. \u201cWe know there\u2019s gonna be people who are bothered by it, but that\u2019s fine \u2026If I\u2019d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad. We were doing our version of analogue, which is so silly and funny, but putting it through our lens, and making sure that nothing felt too macho, was important.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cRock Music\u201d follows 2026\u2019s Wuthering Heights<\/a>, the companion album to Emerald Fennell\u2019s film <\/a>starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, and the soundtrack<\/a> to David Lowery\u2019s Mother Mary<\/a>, which she contributed to alongside Jack Antonoff and FKA Twigs. Last month, her How I\u2019m Feeling Now highlight \u201cParty 4 U\u201d was released as a 7\u2033 for Record Store Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tCharli has been increasingly active in the film industry, starring in Pete Oh\u2019s Erupjca<\/a> and the Brat mockumentary The Moment<\/a>. Her upcoming projects include Julia Jackman\u2019s\u00a0100 Nights of Hero, the Gregg Araki-directed\u00a0I Want Your Sex<\/a>, Cathy Yan\u2019s The Gallerist<\/a>, and a Takashi Miike movie<\/a>, the title of which has yet to be revealed.<\/p>\n

\n\tCharli will hit the festival circuit this summer, headlining Lollapalooza<\/a> (July 31), Outside Lands (Aug. 7), and the Reeding and Leeds Festivals (Aug. 28 and 29). In the fall, she\u2019ll headline both weekends of Austin City Limits<\/a> in Texas, alongside Lorde and Twenty One Pilots.<\/p>\n
