{"id":630878,"date":"2026-05-08T12:20:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T12:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/630878\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T12:20:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T12:20:08","slug":"us-economic-growth-blows-away-g7-growth-so-far-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/630878\/","title":{"rendered":"US economic growth blows away G7 growth so far in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The US has enjoyed dramatically larger economic growth so far this year than most other large developed countries in the world, economic data shows.<\/p>\n<p>US gross domestic product (GDP)<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/30\/business\/gdp-grew-at-a-2-rate-in-first-quarter-despite-iran-war\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> expanded by 2%<\/a> in the first quarter, compared to the previous water,  Bureau of Economic Statistics Data released last week showed.<\/p>\n<p>Compare that to the Group of Seven (G7) bloc of countries \u2014 which has a projected economic growth of 1.1% over the same period. <\/p>\n<p>America\u2019s GDP grew by 2% in the first quarter of 2026, showing signs of healing from last fall\u2019s government shutdown. AP<\/p>\n<p>And the US figure is blowing away the meager<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/web\/products-euro-indicators\/w\/2-30042026-bp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> 0.1% growth reported in the EU<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Germany \u2014 Europe\u2019s largest economy \u2014 clocked a 0.3% growth rate. France was dead flat \u2014 0% growth, while Italy reported 0.2%. <\/p>\n<p>\tG7 economic growth for Q1 2026, compared to previous quarter<\/p>\n<p>United States \u2014 2%<\/p>\n<p>Canada \u2014 1.7%<\/p>\n<p>Japan \u2014 1.48%<\/p>\n<p>United Kingdom \u2014 0.5%<\/p>\n<p>Germany \u2014 0.3%<\/p>\n<p>Italy \u2014 0.2%<\/p>\n<p>France \u2014 0%<\/p>\n<p>The UK is expected to fare a little better with the start of the year yielding an increase of about 0.5%, according to the Office for National Statistics.<\/p>\n<p>Japan and Canada, meanwhile, enjoyed a higher boost in GDP, albeit at a smaller growth than the US.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jcer.or.jp\/english\/esp-forecast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Japan is expected to show a 1.48% quarterly increase<\/a> for the start of 2026, according to the Japan Center for Economic Research.<\/p>\n<p>Tokyo, however, is expected to see a rougher outcome for the rest of 2026, with the following year expected to see little to no economic growth at all, the center warned.<\/p>\n<p>Souring energy prices have taken their toll on the world\u2019s top economies due to the war in Iran. Helayne Seidman for the NY Post<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/international.canada.ca\/en\/global-affairs\/corporate\/reports\/chief-economist\/quarterly\/spring-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Canada will likely see a 1.7% quarterly growth<\/a> after the nation saw an increase in manufacturing, wholesale trade, transportation and mining and oil and gas extraction, Statistics Canada said.<\/p>\n<p>Experts have warned that Canada\u2019s economy is still at elevated risk of recession this year amid global energy price shocks and tariff disputes with the US.<\/p>\n<p>Following<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/20\/business\/as-us-economy-drastically-slows-feds-preferred-inflation-gauge-stays-hot-likely-putting-rate-cuts-on-hold\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> lackluster growth<\/a> at the end 2025, America\u2019s gross domestic product rebounded at a faster rate than all other G7 members, spurred by growing federal and private investments, according to the US Department of Commerce.<\/p>\n<p>While US tech businesses enjoy a boom, average consumer spending was down in the latest quarter.
