DES MOINES, Iowa \u2014 Greg Samorajski<\/a>, the CEO of Iowa Public Employees\u2019 Retirement System (IPERS), has resigned amid a misconduct investigation, Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a statement, IPERS said that Chief Benefit Officer Steven Herbert was also terminated from his position, effective Thursday. Samorajski and Herbert were placed on administrative leave March 31 and April 1, respectively.<\/p>\n

Officials have not disclosed the nature of the misconduct investigations into Samorajski and Herbert \u00a0but said it does not impact payments to IPERS members.\u00a0<\/p>\n

An estimated 10% of Iowans depend or will depend on IPERS as part of their retirement income, according to the state of Iowa.<\/p>\n

The state received Samorajski’s resignation May 1. On Thursday, Gov. Reynolds approved the resignation, which is effective immediately.<\/p>\n

Reynolds appointed Samorajski as CEO of IPERS in 2020.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Department of Administrative Services will immediately begin a nationwide search for a new IPERS CEO, the governor’s office said. IPERS will conduct a similar search to hire a new chief benefits officer.<\/p>\n

IPERS General Counsel Elizabeth Hennessey, whom Reynolds appointed acting CEO when Samorajski was placed on leave, will continue to serve as CEO until a new leader is named.
