For 10 consecutive seasons, NBA general managers voted\u00a0Kobe Bryant<\/a>\u00a0as the player they would like to\u00a0take the last shot<\/a> with the game on the line.<\/p>\n

That said, everything about what type of player he is. The Black Mamba reveled in being booed and silencing the crowd with his play, and it didn’t matter which building he played in. A hostile crowd was practically a welcome mat for the\u00a0Los Angeles Lakers<\/a>\u00a0legend.<\/p>\n

The evidence is not hard to find. Some of Kobe’s most iconic performances took place in arenas where almost everyone in the crowd wanted him to fail.<\/p>\n

Kobe’s mindset on the road<\/p>\n

Every championship-caliber team must show it can win on the road. It was never enough to protect home court, and stealing games in enemy territory is always a badge of honor.<\/p>\n

For most players, however, road games carry a psychological weight that’s hard to shake. The sense that the entire building is working against you is enough to break the confidence of many.<\/p>\n

Not for Bryant, though.<\/p>\n

“I don’t know what the big deal is about playing on the road. I’ve never seen fans scream loud enough to block my jump shot,”\u00a0Bryant\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0after winning Game 1 of the 2003 first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For context, that year was the only time the Shaquille O’Neal-Kobe Lakers went to the playoffs with homecourt disadvantage in the first round. They won 50 games, but still placed fifth behind the Wolves in a tight Western Conference.<\/p>\n

Bryant apparently didn’t care, and it showed in Game 1. He dropped 39 points, five rebounds, and eight assists against only one turnover. Kobe made 16 of his 30 shots from the floor and canned all six of his free-throw attempts in the 117-98 beatdown.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Minnesota took homecourt advantage in the series again after winning Games 2 and 3. The Lakers, however, buckled down behind Bryant’s brilliance. Kobe gave another magnificent showing in Game 5 at Minneapolis’ Target Center with a game-high 32.<\/p>\n

The 30-point drubbing (120-90) was the\u00a0worst playoff loss<\/a>\u00a0in Wolves’ history at the time. Minnesota’s 124-94 Game 5 loss to the OKC Thunder<\/a> in last year’s Western Conference Finals tied the record, while San Antonio<\/a>‘s 38-point domination in Game 2 of the 2026 WCSF upended it.<\/p>\n

Kobe’s best games on the road<\/p>\n

Bryant always carried himself with a cocky streak, but he usually put his money where his mouth was. As mentioned, Kobe loved to show out against a hostile crowd. He often expressed that silencing a jeering mob was the most satisfying feeling in basketball.<\/p>\n

The list of times he did exactly that was considerably long.<\/p>\n

For instance, 23-year-old Bryant answered the call in Game 4 of the 2002 WCSF against the San Antonio Spurs<\/a>. The Lakers were down by double-digits for most of the fourth period, but Kobe came up huge in the final minutes. He scored 12 of his 28 in the quarter, including three 3-pointers that tied the game at 85 apiece with 2:10 remaining.<\/p>\n

In the end, Bryant rose above the Spurs’ Twin Towers off a Derek Fisher miss and laid the ball in for an 87-85 lead. The Lakers went home victorious, thanks to Kobe’s superhuman efforts.<\/p>\n

Then, there was his\u00a0coming-out party<\/a>\u00a0in Game 4 of the 2000 NBA Finals. Shaq fouled out in overtime with the Lakers in danger of losing two straight games. With a bad ankle and all, Bryant carried the team on his back. He scored eight points in the crucial stretch to give L.A. the victory and a 3-1 series lead.<\/p>\n

Those were just two nights in a career full of them. Game 6 of the 2009 Western Conference Finals vs. the Denver Nuggets<\/a>, Game 6 of the 2010 Western Conference Finals over the Phoenix Suns<\/a>, and the 48-point, 16-rebound masterpiece against Sacramento<\/a> in the 2001 WCSF, were all road masterclasses. And the list goes on.<\/p>\n

When Kobe was at his best, the address never really mattered. The nastier the environment became, the more the Black Mamba appeared to enjoy the assignment.<\/p>\n
