A West Texas town that acts as the gateway to Big Bend country<\/a> is now feeling a tightening of its water supply.<\/p>\n

The City of Alpine announced on Wednesday, May 6, that it has entered Stage 4 Critical Water Shortage Conditions<\/a> due to a “critical failure within the municipal well system impacting the City’s water supply and distribution capabilities,” according to\u00a0a news release<\/a>. Alpine added that “fire apparatus” has been used to maintain adequate water system levels, but demand continues to exceed supply.<\/p>\n

Residents are being urged to immediately conserve water and face the following restrictions under Stage 4 conditions:<\/p>\n

During this period, Alpine residents can expect reduced water pressure and temporary water interruptions, according to the release.<\/p>\n

All municipal wells are still operational except one, which Alpine has been advised to plug and abandon. As a result, Alpine intends to drill a replacement well to help stabilize the water distribution system and “improve longterm system reliability,” according to the release. However, it could take 4-6 weeks for Alpine to exit the Stage 4 restrictions.<\/p>\n

Residents are told to monitor the City of Alpine’s official website and social media for updates on the water crisis.<\/p>\n
