A 40th anniversary Dragon Quest<\/a> livestream will take place later this month, on 27th May \u2013 and everyone\u2019s praying for a Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate<\/a> update.<\/p>\n

In a YouTube<\/a> video which has since been delisted, series creator Yuji Horii confirmed:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll be doing a livestream on 27th May. I think we\u2019ll be able to make an announcement about the next game. We\u2019ll also have various other things besides the next game, so please look forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Gematsu<\/a> points out, a similar event was held for Dragon Quest\u2019s 35th anniversary in 2021, where a slew of games were announced, including Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake<\/a> and Dragon Quest Treasures<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ironically, Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate was also revealed at that event<\/a>, but we haven\u2019t seen anything in the five years since. Surely it\u2019s time?<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

While Horii didn\u2019t specifically mention Dragon Quest 12 in the aforementioned YouTube video, we have to imagine that\u2019s what he was referring to when he talked about the \u201cnext game\u201d?<\/p>\n

Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age<\/a> first released in 2017 on the PS4 in Japan, so it\u2019s been almost ten years since that game. It was released worldwide in 2018, and re-released as the Definitive Edition in 2020.<\/p>\n

Since then, Square Enix has been steadily growing the fanbase of the franchise globally with various re-releases and remasters, most recently with Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined<\/a> earlier this year.<\/p>\n

It feels like the right moment for a true sequel to us.<\/p>\n
