Atrium Health Navicent<\/a>. Today, she is the chief nursing officer at Atrium Health Navicent Peach and her son is retracing her first steps.<\/p>\nNoah Hancock began working as a patient transporter at Atrium Health Navicent in Macon earlier this year, just months after graduating from Isa High School and enrolling at Middle Georgia State University, where he is finishing his first year.<\/p>\n
For Jill Hancock, watching her son take on a role she once held carries deep meaning.<\/p>\n
“I am very proud of Noah,” she said. “He’s got such a kind heart and compassion. I always knew that this would be a good field for him.”<\/p>\n
Jill Hancock said the transporter position was a deliberate first step in her own career, a way to get her foot in the door while she pursued nursing school. She credits the job with teaching her skills she still relies on decades later.<\/p>\n
“You learn logistics, you learn teamwork, you learn how to deal with people, you learn how to work with doctors, and you find various locations throughout the hospital,” she said. “To this day, I can tell you where to go in this hospital from that job.”<\/p>\n
Noah Hancock said his mother’s journey from the transport team to the executive level inspired him to see the position as more than an entry-level role.<\/p>\n
“To go from Nine Main to be a CNO, that’s got to take a lot of dedication,” he said.<\/p>\n
Working 40 hours a week on night shift \u2014 Thursdays through Sundays \u2014 while taking college classes, Noah Hancock said the job has already expanded his sense of what a healthcare career could look like.<\/p>\n
“I can see every job being a transporter,” he said. “Whether it’s I want to be a CT tech or I want to go into trauma or I want to be an ICU nurse, I can figure that out here.”<\/p>\n
One lesson his mother passed down has stuck with him most.<\/p>\n
