South Africa’s Yurav Premlall was one shot away from equalling Tiger Woods’ 26-year-old record for the biggest winning margin on the DP World Tour as he stormed to victory at the Catalunya Championship.<\/p>\n
Premlall carded a final-round 63 to finish on 28 under and secure his maiden DP World Tour win by 14 shots from compatriot Shaun Norris.<\/p>\n
American great Woods finished 15 shots clear of the field when he won the US Open in 2000.<\/p>\n
Premlall repeated his 63 in the third round a day later, once again carding 10 birdies and one bogey.<\/p>\n
On top of his prize money of just under 400,000 euros (\u00a3345,000), the 22-year-old received $50,000 (\u00a336,700) for the 63 being a course record and also moved up from 598th to 250th in the world rankings.<\/p>\n
“No words,” said Premlall, who also went from 157th to 26th in the Race for Dubai rankings.<\/p>\n
“I’ve worked so hard to get into this position and it’s so rewarding to finally see the results of it.<\/p>\n
“I mean the last eight, nine months have been such a struggle just to build myself on to a platform where I know I could give myself a chance to win and to end up obviously in this position.<\/p>\n
