Want to use your favorite AI chatbot app in the car? iOS 26.4 and later supports voice-based conversational apps, and we\u2019ve already seen several popular iPhone apps update for CarPlay.<\/p>\n

While not every AI chatbot has a dedicated CarPlay app just yet, widget support can get you pretty close for some of the holdouts.<\/p>\n

AI chatbot apps in CarPlay <\/p>\n

So far, we\u2019ve seen three AI chatbots add CarPlay support to their iPhone apps:<\/p>\n

Each app offers a similar layout for starting new voice mode conversations or selecting from a list of recent conversations. <\/p>\n

ChatGPT goes a bit further by displaying Projects, or collections of chats based on a topic. Grok is the only app that lets you switch between voices from the CarPlay app.<\/p>\n

Apple added support for CarPlay widgets as part of iOS 26, and several AI chatbot app widgets work with CarPlay. <\/p>\n

Both ChatGPT and Grok have CarPlay widgets that launch the newly introduced CarPlay apps.<\/p>\n

Perplexity\u2019s iPhone app widget can be added to CarPlay, but it\u2019s not optimized for the in-car experience and doesn\u2019t do anything.<\/p>\n

Anthropic\u2019s Claude features voice mode on the iPhone, but the AI chatbot app is notably absent from CarPlay.<\/p>\n

Claude has an iPhone widget that can be added to CarPlay, but it doesn\u2019t actually work right now. <\/p>\n

Meta\u2019s Messenger widget with an \u201cAsk Meta AI\u201d button can also be added to CarPlay, but it similarly doesn\u2019t work yet.<\/p>\n

The good news is that there are two AI chatbot apps that lack CarPlay apps but have working CarPlay widgets: Google Gemini<\/a> and Microsoft Copilot<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both of these apps have CarPlay widgets that support starting voice mode conversations from the CarPlay screen without picking up the iPhone. <\/p>\n

Hopefully, we\u2019ll see dedicated CarPlay apps and updated widgets from all of these AI chatbot apps in the future. We might even see a dedicated Siri app<\/a> for CarPlay in iOS 27 next month.<\/a> <\/p>\n

For now, CarPlay works with ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Grok apps, plus Gemini and Copilot widgets.<\/p>\n
