Health safety grades for spring 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/eye-surgery.jpeg\"   width=\"1200\" height=\"674\" title=\"Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade lists best and worst hospitals in Fresno County. \" alt=\"Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade lists best and worst hospitals in Fresno County. \"\/><\/p>\n<p>        Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade lists best and worst hospitals in Fresno County. <\/p>\n<p>                andresr<\/p>\n<p>            Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>How safe are hospitals in Fresno County?<\/p>\n<p>Two local hospitals scored \u201cA\u201d grades for patient safety in The Leapfrog Group\u2019s latest report.<\/p>\n<p>The nonprofit organization, which focuses on patient safety and care, issues <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leapfroggroup.org\/news-events\/new-leapfrog-hospital-safety-grades-show-significant-improvement-patient-safety\">Hospital Safety Grade reports<\/a> twice a year for general hospitals across the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Those grades are based on hospitals\u2019 ability to \u201cprotect patients from medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections,\u201d The Leapfrog Group said.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 40% of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalsafetygrade.org\/your-hospitals-safety-grade\/state-rankings\">California hospitals received \u201cA\u201d grades<\/a> for patient safety in spring 2026, with a total of 113 healthcare facilities earning A\u2019s, according to the group.<\/p>\n<p>That means the Golden State ranks among the 10 safest states for hospital patients in the country, The Leapfrog Group said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe good news is that hospitals across the country are making meaningful strides in patient safety and helping save countless lives,\u201d Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, said in a May 6 news release. \u201cBut not all hospitals are the same. CRAIG KOHLRUSS                                                                            ckohlruss@fresnobee.com                                                                                        What are the safest hospitals in Fresno County?<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adventisthealth.org\/central-california\/locations\/adventist-health-selma\/\">Adventist Health Selma<\/a>, 1141 Rose Ave. in Selma, was among the Fresno County hospitals that received \u201cA\u201d grades in The Leapfrog Group\u2019s spring 2026 report.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adventisthealth.org\/central-california\/locations\/adventist-health-selma\/\">Adventist Health Selma<\/a> achieved average or better-than average scores for its practices to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalsafetygrade.org\/h\/adventist-health-selma?findBy=zip&amp;zip_code=93701&amp;radius=100&amp;rPos=0&amp;rSort=distance\">prevent errors and safety problems<\/a>. CRAIG KOHLRUSS                                                                            ckohlruss@fresnobee.com                                                                                        Which local hospitals got C grades for patient safety?<\/p>\n<p>Three Fresno County hospitals received \u201cC\u201d grades for patient safety, according to The Leapfrog Group\u2019s latest report.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.communitymedical.org\/locations\/community-regional-medical-center\">Community Regional Medical Center<\/a>, 2823 Fresno St. in Fresno, excelled at its practices to prevent errors but underperformed when it came to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalsafetygrade.org\/h\/community-regional-medical-center?findBy=zip&amp;zip_code=93701&amp;radius=100&amp;rPos=372&amp;rSort=distance\">preventing infections and surgical complications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Leapfrog Group said the hospital received worse-than-average scores for its efforts to stave off sepsis and other infections as well as surgery issues such as serious breathing problems, wounds splitting open and death from serious treatable complications.<\/p>\n<p>Infections were a problem at <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.communitymedical.org\/locations\/clovis-community-medical-center\">Clovis Community Medical Center<\/a>, 2755 Herndon Ave. in Clovis, according to The Leapfrog Group\u2019s spring 2026 report.<\/p>\n<p>The Clovis hospital generally scored average lower than average on its <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalsafetygrade.org\/h\/clovis-community-medical-center?findBy=zip&amp;zip_code=93701&amp;radius=100&amp;rPos=711.3333129882812&amp;rSort=distance\">efforts to prevent infections<\/a>, safety problems and problems with surgery.<\/p>\n<p>However, Clovis Community Medical Center performed better in terms of effective leadership, nursing care and practices to prevent errors.<\/p>\n<p>Both Clovis Community Medical Center and Community Regional Medical Center are <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.communityhealthsystem.org\/locations\">owned by Community Health System.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>                                          <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/local hospitals-st agnes.jpg\"   width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" title=\"local hospitals-st agnes.jpg\" alt=\"Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno  photographed on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022. \"\/>                                                                                    Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno  photographed on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022. CRAIG KOHLRUSS                                                                            ckohlruss@fresnobee.com                                                                                        How did Fresno-area hospitals perform in the past?<\/p>\n<p>According to The Leapfrog Group, Adventist Health Selma and Kaiser Permanente Fresno Medical Center have consistently earned A grades for patient safety since 2023 \u2014 with the exception of fall 2023, when both hospitals got B grades.<\/p>\n<p>Community Regional Medical Center received C grades during the same time period.<\/p>\n<p>Clovis Community Medical Center got B grades for health safety in spring and fall 2024. However, the hospital received C grades in 2023 and 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Since spring 2023, Saint Agnes Medical Center has received mostly C grades.
