{"id":638164,"date":"2026-05-12T08:26:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T08:26:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/638164\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T08:26:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T08:26:16","slug":"broward-wildfire-rages-in-everglades-as-new-blaze-ignites-near-florida-city-in-south-miami-dade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/638164\/","title":{"rendered":"Broward wildfire rages in Everglades as new blaze ignites near Florida City in south Miami-Dade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fire crews in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/south-florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">South Florida<\/a> are continuing their work to contain and extinguish <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/wildfire\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">wildfires<\/a> that ignited in Broward and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/broward-county\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Miami-Dade<\/a> counties over the weekend that continue to grow in size.<\/p>\n<p>The larger of the two fires is located in the Florida Everglades in western Broward County and is being called the Max Road Fire.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/cbsmiami-broward-wildfire-1.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"cbsmiami-broward-wildfire-1.jpg \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  The Max Road Fire is seen burning in western Broward County on Sunday, May 10, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>                Andrew Johnson<\/p>\n<p>The Max Road Fire, which is to the west of US-27 and Pines Boulevard, has so far burned about 11,090 acres and is 60% contained.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/pembroke-pines\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pembroke Pines<\/a> police and fire-rescue departments have been positioned in nearby communities \u2013 such as the Holly Lake community \u2013 to keep an eye on the developing situation to ensure flames don&#8217;t begin to creep closer to the area.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Florida Forest Service continues containment operations on the fire,&#8221; Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PembrokePinesFD\/posts\/pfbid0NgLVpnHMk7J89FEkAUt6s1XDpKKQWm6mDi7rujREM1T1J3o52XSwsD3odH9cnz4Wl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">said in a Facebook post<\/a> on Monday. &#8220;Resident can expect a heavy presence of helicopters and emergency personnel in the area and should not be alarmed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Emergency officials said that there is still no imminent threat to the community, but residents are being urged to be aware of local conditions in case the situation changes.<\/p>\n<p>And some residents aren&#8217;t taking any chances.<\/p>\n<p>Down the street, Vilma Rodriguez said she and her daughter are preparing in case the winds change direction and the fire comes closer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re keeping an eye on things,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve already set aside some things in case we have to leave.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/cbsmiami-max-road-fire-1.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"cbsmiami-max-road-fire-1.jpg \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  Audry Gonzalez is seen using a hose to wet down her back yard as the Max Road Fire burning in western Broward County on May 11, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nervous, concerned,&#8221; Audrey Gonzalez said. &#8220;Kind of just being watchful because, it&#8217;s just, fire is something that&#8217;s so powerful,&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gonzales is doing her part.
