\n\tDespite the star wattage on the Cannes<\/a> Film Festival jury with Demi Moore, Stellan Skargard, Ruth Negga and Chloe Zhao, one of the more candid statement came from Ken Loach\u2019s Cannes winning scribe Paul Laverty<\/a> who buttoned up today\u2019s jury presser by blasting Hollywood, which he said has blacklisted Susan Sarandon, Javier Bardem and Mark Ruffalo for their pro-Gaza views.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition, Laverty gave a thumbs up to Cannes\u2019 Thelma & Louise poster which has been criticized by French gender-parity group Le Collectif 50\/50\u00a0for \u201cfeminism washing\u201d given that only five of the 22 pics in the running at the fest are from female filmmakers.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cCan I just say one tiny little thing, of course, and congratulate the Cannes Film Festival<\/a> and the wonderful poster that they have? Absolutely, absolutely iconic. Quite brilliant,\u201d said Laverty.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIsn\u2019t it fascinating to see someone like Susan Sarandon, Javier Bardem, Mark Ruffalo blacklisted because of their views in opposing the murder of women and children in Gaza,\u201d he continued, \u201cShame on Hollywood people who do that! And then so my respect and total solidarity to them. They\u2019re the best of us, and good luck to them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLaverty then quipped, \u201cAnd then I just thought, we don\u2019t get bombed now because we\u2019ve got this poster in Cannes. Thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLast year on the eve of Cannes, more than 350 film world figures, including\u00a0Richard Gere<\/a>,\u00a0Susan Sarandon<\/a>, Mark Ruffalo and\u00a0Javier Bardem<\/a>, published an open letter condemning \u201csilence\u201d over the deadly impact of\u00a0Israel<\/a>\u2019s ongoing military campaign in\u00a0Gaza<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tSarandon at a press conference for her career achievement at the 40th Goya Awards in February spoke about how she\u2019s been shunned in Hollywood<\/a> for her pro-Gaza views. <\/p>\n

\n\tSaid the Oscar winner then, \u201cI was fired by my agency, specifically for marching and speaking out about Gaza, for asking for a cease fire, and it became impossible for me to even be on television. I don\u2019t know lately if it\u2019s changed, but I couldn\u2019t do any major film, anything connected with Hollywood.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn fielding the first question at the top of the conference, Laverty observed how the Cannes Film Festival is an oasis for peace in a turbulent world.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEspecially in these times now, in these really dark times\u2026you see so much violence and systematic violence, genocide in Gaza; the idea of coming to a festival, which is a celebration of diversity, imagination, tenderness,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\n\tOther members in the Park Chan-Wook led Cannes jury include Demi Moore, Ruth Negga, Chloe Zhoe, Stellan Skarsgard, Belgian filmmaker Laura Wandel, Chilean filmmaker Diego Cespedes, and actor Isaach de Bankole.<\/p>\n
