\n\tEXCLUSIVE:\u00a0Gary Dauberman<\/a>\u2018s Coin Operated<\/a> has secured the rights to\u00a0Rest Stop<\/a>, a recently published horror novella by Nat Cassidy<\/a>, with an eye toward developing a feature adaptation.<\/p>\n

\n\tCassidy will adapt the screenplay, with Dauberman and Mia Maniscalco to produce through Coin Operated.<\/p>\n

\n\tRest Stop\u00a0follows a young musician who finds himself locked inside a gas station bathroom in the middle of the night by an unseen assailant, caught between the horrors on the other side of the door and the horrors rapidly skittering down the walls inside. The story is part of Cassidy\u2019s collection,\u00a0I Know A Place: Rest Stop and Other Dark Detours, which Shortwave Publishing and Simon & Schuster released on May 5.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI like to describe this novella as \u2018Green Room\u00a0meets\u00a0Gerald\u2019s Game,’\u201d Cassidy told us. \u201cIt\u2019s the closest thing I\u2019ve yet written to \u2018extreme\u2019 horror \u2014 though, I wouldn\u2019t say it goes nearly as hard or gets nearly as bleak as the most extreme \u2018extreme\u2019 horror stories I\u2019ve read. Regardless, I\u2019m hoping it makes your next visit to a gas station bathroom even scarier than it would otherwise be.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDauberman said, \u201cLike the junk food aisle at any sketchy gas station on the side of the road,\u00a0Rest Stop\u00a0has a little bit of everything (that may or may not kill you). Its relentless pace, psychological torment, heartfelt character moments, and many squirm-inducing sequences make it the rare horror story that has all the ingredients for a perfectly terrifying experience on the big screen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA USA Today bestseller and Bram Stoker Award nominee, Cassidy\u2019s other works include\u00a0Mary,\u00a0When the Wolf Comes Home\u00a0and\u00a0Nestlings. His award-winning plays have been produced across the country, including Off-Broadway and the Kennedy Center. He\u2019s also been seen guest starring on shows like\u00a0Law & Order: SVU,\u00a0Blue Bloods,\u00a0Bull,\u00a0Quantico,\u00a0FBI\u00a0and many others, and is repped by Alec Shane at Writers House LLC.<\/p>\n

\n\tUnder a production deal with Sony\/Screen Gems, Coin Operated\u2019s first project as part of that was the video game\u00a0Until Dawn, with David F. Sandberg at the helm and Dauberman as producer and writer.<\/p>\n

\n\tUpcoming for the company is Andr\u00e9 \u00d8vredal\u2019s supernatural horror film\u00a0Passenger, starring Melissa Leo, Lou Lloubell and Jacob Scipio, which Paramount releases May 22. Also in the works is\u00a0The Revenge of La Llorona, directed by Santiago Menghini, which Warner Bros. releases next year.<\/p>\n
