{"id":639316,"date":"2026-05-12T21:46:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T21:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/639316\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T21:46:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T21:46:09","slug":"ebay-rejects-gamestops-55-5-billion-takeover-bid-calling-it-neither-credible-nor-attractive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/639316\/","title":{"rendered":"EBay rejects GameStop&#8217;s $55.5 billion takeover bid, calling it &#8220;neither credible nor attractive&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EBay on Tuesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/ebay-rejects-unsolicited-proposal-from-gamestop-302769000.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">said<\/a> it is rejecting GameStop&#8217;s $55.5 billion takeover bid, calling the offer &#8220;neither credible nor attractive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The rejection comes about a week after GameStop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/gamestop-ebay-takeover-bid-ryan-cohen\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">made its offer,<\/a> with CEO Ryan Cohen arguing that the video game retailer&#8217;s 1,600 locations would give eBay a &#8220;national network&#8221; for authentication, intake and fulfillment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, eBay said it rejected the bid because of uncertainty around GameStop&#8217;s acquisition financing, as well as the leverage and operational risks of combining the two companies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>GameStop, which already owns a 5% stake in eBay, offered $125 per share in cash and stock.<\/p>\n<p>GameStop didn&#8217;t immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>GameStop, with a market capitalization of about $10.4 billion, is much smaller than eBay, which is valued at about $48 billion.
