{"id":641248,"date":"2026-05-13T20:10:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T20:10:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/641248\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T20:10:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T20:10:10","slug":"a-madelon-vriesendorp-retrospective-is-coming-to-sir-john-soanes-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/641248\/","title":{"rendered":"A Madelon Vriesendorp retrospective is coming to Sir John Soane\u2019s Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A forthcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archpaper.com\/tag\/exhibitions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">exhibition<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archpaper.com\/tag\/london\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">London<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archpaper.com\/tag\/sir-john-soane-museum\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sir John Soane\u2019s Museum<\/a> will celebrate the \u201csurreal, subversive practice\u201d of Madelon Vriesendorp.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.soane.org\/exhibitions\/madelon-vriesendorp-mind-games\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Madelon Vriesendorp: Mind Games<\/a> opens this summer. It will feature 50 artworks by or from the personal collection of Vriesendorp, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archpaper.com\/2025\/10\/madelon-vriesendorp-2025-sir-john-soane-medal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2025 Soane Medal winner<\/a> and OMA cofounder.<\/p>\n<p>Vriesendorp is famous for her illustrations (Flagrant D\u00e9lits, Captive Globe), but is also a renowned tinkerer. \u201cI make things that make me laugh,\u201d Vriesendorp said, in describing her process.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition subtitle takes its name from a psychoanalytical toolkit Vriesendorp designed, Critical Pursuit Home Analysis Kit, more commonly known as Mind Game.<\/p>\n<p>A large-scale version of Mind Game will be on display at the exhibition. Other contraptions that Vrienendorp designed; her early jewelry, etchings, drawings, and book covers; and newer works on paper and sculpture will also be on view.<\/p>\n<p>New sculptures from a recent series titled Plastic Surgery made of recycled plastic bottles and packaging will be on view.
