{"id":641755,"date":"2026-05-14T02:04:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T02:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/641755\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T02:04:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T02:04:13","slug":"bioshock-creator-says-nintendo-switch-2-proves-gaming-graphics-are-hitting-diminishing-returns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/641755\/","title":{"rendered":"BioShock creator says Nintendo Switch 2 proves gaming graphics are hitting &#8220;diminishing returns&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nintendoeverything.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bioshock-scaled.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img width=\"656\" height=\"369\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/bioshock-656x369.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-image size-post-image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ken Levine, creator of BioShock, recently used the Nintendo Switch 2 as an example while criticizing the gaming industry\u2019s increasing obsession with graphical realism, arguing that the medium has reached a point of \u201cdiminishing returns\u201d when it comes to visuals.<br \/>Speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/videos\/ken-levine-on-bioshock-judas-and-the-evolution-of-game-design-ign-30-icons\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">IGN<\/a>, Levine discussed how modern games continue to chase photorealism, but believes players and developers alike are starting to value unique artistic styles over raw graphical power.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Realism] doesn\u2019t age as well as more stylistic things, BioShock still looks good, I think, because it wasn\u2019t trying to get every nut and bolt super realistic\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Levine also pointed to the growing popularity of more affordable and less technically ambitious hardware such as the Nintendo Switch 2 and Valve\u2019s upcoming Steam-focused devices, saying the industry may already have reached a level where additional graphical leaps are no longer essential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook at say, the Switch 2 and [even] the new Steam Machine coming out Those are not massive technological upgrades. That wasn\u2019t their strategy. I think, people are realising we\u2019re hitting a bit of diminishing returns with that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Levine, what truly allows a game to stand the test of time is finding the right artistic direction and creative vision rather than constantly pursuing cutting-edge technology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t need to be on the cutting edge of technology all the time, Even the stuff we\u2019re doing in Judas, all this narrative stuff we\u2019re doing, it\u2019s not CPU intensive.
