WALDORF, Md. \u2014 Charles County Animal Control officers found themselves in an unusual chase earlier this week when a call came in about a large, feathered fugitive roaming the area.<\/p>\n

The unexpected suspect? An emu.<\/p>\n

Described as tall, fast, and not particularly stealthy, the runaway bird was spotted dashing through the community, drawing double-takes from surprised residents. Officer Neel responded to the call and managed to safely capture the emu without incident.<\/p>\n

The bird, now affectionately known as \u201cWillie,\u201d was transported to the Charles County Animal Care Center, where he\u2019s being held in good spirits. Officials say Willie appears healthy and is now available for adoption to a suitable home.<\/p>\n

Those interested in giving this adventurous emu a forever flock can visit the Care Center Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.<\/p>\n
