Brittney Griner<\/a> has played in the Connecticut Sun<\/a>\u2019s first two games of the WNBA<\/a> season. The 10-time All-Star, however, is out of action for Wednesday\u2019s matchup against the defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Griner was ruled out of Wednesday\u2019s contest due to a foot injury. This marks the 35-year-old\u2019s first missed game for her new team after Griner joined Connecticut in free agency<\/a>. The two-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year signed a one-year, $1.19 million contract<\/a> with the Sun during the offseason.<\/p>\n

Connecticut head coach Rachid Meziane spoke to reporters ahead of the Aces game to address the unwanted development on Griner’s injury. According to the second-year coach, Griner has a sprained toe, via Sun reporter Emily Adams on X<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Meziane also added that Griner herself stated when she plans to come back. “She says that she will play the next game,” Meziane relayed.<\/p>\n

The Sun will be back on the court on Friday in a rematch against the Aces. They will host A\u2019ja Wilson<\/a> and Co. again in a home matchup at Mohegan Sun Arena. <\/p>\n

Griner has had a strong start for her new team. She\u2019s averaged 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 27.5 minutes per contest.<\/p>\n

The Sun, however, have started the campaign 0-2. They got blown out by the New York Liberty<\/a> in their season-opener on Friday, 106-75. This was followed by a 89-82 home loss to the Seattle Storm<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Connecticut is looking to have a more productive campaign in 2026 after it finished 11th in the WNBA last season with an 11-33 record. Griner\u2019s production will be pivotal in the Sun\u2019s plans this year.<\/p>\n
