{"id":641989,"date":"2026-05-14T04:45:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T04:45:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/641989\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T04:45:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T04:45:08","slug":"dea-finds-arkansas-leads-in-unused-medicine-collection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/641989\/","title":{"rendered":"DEA finds Arkansas leads in unused medicine collection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DEA New Orleans Field Division has found Arkansas to be the led state in drug collection in the region after the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.<\/p>\n<p>LITTLE ROCK, Ark. \u2014 On April 25, 2025, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) New Orleans Field Division partnered with law enforcement along the Gulf Coast for the 16th annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thv11.com\/article\/news\/local\/arkansas-drug-take-back-day\/91-18bc6963-d0e1-4f27-b8db-a80e2223aec5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">National Prescription Drug Take Back Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Through the event, communities in states including Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi have removed 63,119 pounds of unneeded and expired medications from home medicine cabinets.<\/p>\n<p>                                        &#13;<br \/>\n                                            <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thv11.com\/assets\/shared-images\/icons\/arrow-circle-down.svg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>                                        &#13;<br \/>\n                                            This story continues below.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>In a divisional breakdown, Arkansas led the collections with a 50,240-pound contribution of unused or expired medication.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Louisiana follows with a 4,579-pound intake, and Alabama residents disposed of 4,337 pounds of prescriptions. Mississippi reports 3,963 pounds in contributions.<\/p>\n<p>Steven L. Hofer, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA New Orleans Division, said, &#8220;The overwhelming success of this event, particularly the record-breaking efforts in Arkansas, shows that our communities are taking the threat of prescription drug misuse seriously.
