There are concerns that shortages and rising inflation could cause layoffs in some industries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The number of people receiving unemployment benefits after \u200can initial week of aid, \u200ba proxy for hiring, increased \u200b24,000 to a \u200bseasonally adjusted 1.782 million during the \u200cweek ended May 2, the \u200bclaims report \u200bshowed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The government reported last week that nonfarm payrolls increased by 115,000 jobs in April, the \u200bsecond straight \u200cmonth of strong employment gains.
