BOSTON \u2014 Since the Boston Celtics<\/a> were eliminated from the first round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs in the beginning of May, Green Teamers have been looking for some good news. And while there hasn’t been much of late, fan-favorite Celtic Isaiah Thomas<\/a> will offer fans some reprieve.<\/p>\n

The two-time Celtics star has joined Boston once more, this time as a pro and college scout, per Adam Himmelsbach<\/a> of The Boston Globe. The Tacoma, Washington native will be based in Seattle and cover the West Coast, which is a hot spot for prospects.<\/p>\n

Although Thomas is new to this role, he’s reportedly already been busy, attending the NBA Combine this week in Chicago<\/a> and talking to potential draftees. The Celtics own the no. 27 and no. 40 picks in the 2026 NBA Draft and President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens has emphasized the importance of adding to the roster.<\/p>\n

Not long ago other franchises around the NBA considered adding Thomas to their squad, as the veteran point guard played in the G League just last year and logged some minutes with the Phoenix Suns<\/a> in 2024. It seems as if the 5-foot-9 superstar is ready to enter the next chapter of his basketball journey, though, and the Celtics \u2014 who’ve always rooted him on from afar \u2014 are happy to have him back.<\/p>\n

“He’s done so much for the city and really for the organization,” Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla described of Thomas to Celtics Wire last December. “When you’re a high-character guy, people appreciate you and you’re able to leave the place a little better than you found it.”<\/p>\n
