How it happened<\/p>\n

IU basketball opened the Darian DeVries era at Coliseo Guillermo Angulo in Carolina, Puerto Rico on Wednesday night with a comfortable exhibition victory. The Hoosiers went with a starting five of Conor Enright, Tayton Conerway, Lamar Wilkerson, Tucker DeVries and Reed Bailey. IU built an eight-point lead midway through the first 10-minute quarter at 16-8 and was led early by DeVries, who knocked in a pair of 3-pointers. By the end of the first quarter, the Hoosiers were up 26-15 as eight different players scored in the opening frame. <\/p>\n

Davidson transfer Reed Bailey was impressive to open the second quarter, scoring four of IU\u2019s first six points as the lead grew to 14 points at 32-18. From there, IU continued to pull away leading into halftime. Freshman Trent Sisley\u2019s first basket off a backcut, which was followed by a 3-point make, pushed the lead to 39-23 by the 4:30 mark of the second quarter. By halftime, IU led 49-23. Unofficially, seniors Lamar Wilkerson and Tayton Conerway paced IU with nine points each.<\/p>\n

A few additional unofficial numbers from the first half: 10 rebounds for Alexis, six assists for DeVries and three steals for Conerway.<\/p>\n

The Hoosiers started strong out of the locker room as Bailey scored four points and grabbed three rebounds in the opening minutes of the third quarter. Sisley cleaned up a DeVries missed 3-pointer with a putback dunk to stretch the lead to 61-23 and force a timeout from Universidad de Bayam\u00f3n. By the 2:27 mark of the period, IU\u2019s lead was 42 points at 69-27 as Alexis had already notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. By the end of the third, the Hoosiers led 74-33 and Sisley\u2019s 14 points led the team.<\/p>\n

Early in the fourth quarter, Ristic found walk-on Ian Stephens for a layup to make it 80-36 IU. Shortly after, Miles found Sisley in transition for a layup to push the Southern Indiana native up to 21 points. Another bucket from Stephens late in the fourth quarter pushed the lead to nearly 50 points at 96-47 and a dunk from Harris pushed the lead to 51, the final margin of victory for the Hoosiers.<\/p>\n

Standout performers<\/p>\n

Unofficially, five Hoosiers finished in double figures. Sisley led the way with 21 points, followed by 13 by Harris, 12 from Wilkerson and 10 each from Bailey and Alexis.<\/p>\n
