Corient, the fee-only registered investment advisor arm of Mubadala Capital-owned CI Financial, has acquired Capital Advisors, Inc., a Tulsa, Okla.-based wealth manager with $7.8 billion in assets under management, a strong presence in Texas and footprints in seven other states.<\/p>\n

Capital Advisors is an employee-owned firm founded in 1978 and led by CEO Keith Goddard and President Andy Brown, with a total staff of 47. The firm\u2019s principals will become Corient partners upon closing, which Corient expects to occur later this quarter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe addition of Capital Advisors gives Corient our first office in Oklahoma and significantly expands our client base across the South and Southwest,\u201d Kurt MacAlpine, founding partner and CEO of Corient, said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Capital Advisors follows a team-based strategy of financial planning, investment management and wealth management for families and institutions.<\/p>\n

MacAlpine frequently cites Corient\u2019s team-based approach as a draw for advisors, noting that they can tap expertise across practice areas and, more recently, borders for clients with assets in multiple countries.<\/p>\n

A few weeks ago, Corient announced plans to expand into Canada<\/a> by taking over the majority of the wealth management operations of its parent firm, CI Financial. In April, the RIA acquired Bedrock Group<\/a>, a European wealth manager with $10.7 billion in client assets. That added to a large deal last year that Corient made for two European-based wealth managers<\/a> with combined client assets of $214 billion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Once those deals are complete, Corient will oversee about $450 billion globally, more than doubling from the $222 billion it oversaw as of March 31.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The fee-only wealth management firm operates under a private partnership model, with over 250 partners and 1,400 employees.<\/p>\n

\u201cCorient\u2019s private partnership model was the key factor in our decision to join the firm, as it reflects the values that drive Capital Advisors\u2014integrity, teamwork and dedication to our clients,\u201d Capital CEO Goddard said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Goddard was the largest shareholder of Capital Advisors through trust vehicles, according to the firm\u2019s most recent Form ADV.<\/p>\n
