(WBAY) &#8211; A wayward stork native to southern Africa was captured late Thursday, according to Safari Lake Geneva.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The owner of the animal park, Jay Christie, and its director of conservation, Maggie Christie, rescued the stork, which is currently in quarantine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cShe surrendered without resistance,\u201d Christie stated in a news release. \u201cShe is remarkably tame by stork standards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s unlikely she would have survived another month,\u201d Christie said, noting a number of close calls with traffic. \u201cAnd, of course, she would never survive one of our winters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Manatou storks have one of the largest wingspans of the world\u2019s birds, but how it sailed into Wisconsin is a mystery. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbay.com\/2026\/05\/13\/manitowoc-woman-recalls-sighting-rare-african-stork-after-multiple-social-media-reports\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wbay.com\/2026\/05\/13\/manitowoc-woman-recalls-sighting-rare-african-stork-after-multiple-social-media-reports\/\">woman who recorded a video of the stork<\/a> from about 50 feet away said it appeared to have a tag on its leg.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Action 2 News reached out to USDA Wildlife Services on Wednesday, which said the federal agency was not asked to help recover the bird.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WBAY.
