The bear did not show any signs of aggression. The first reported sighting was around 10 p.m. At around 10:38 p.m., UC Davis police dispatch received calls about a “large brown animal” along the fence line of 5400 Orchard Park Lane near the community center. The person said they thought they saw a bear run through a hole in the fence along Highway 113. Officers used a drone and tried to locate the bear with a heat signature but were unable to do so. More calls followed around 11:22 p.m. when the bear was seen near trash cans in the West Village area and then moving toward a “preserve area.” Videos posted to YikYak showed the bear crossing the roadway near Russell Boulevard, the UC Davis spokesperson said. The California Department of Fish and Game and Yolo County Animal Control were called but said they would not respond for sightings in green belts, according to the UC Davis police spokesperson. UC Davis dispatch then received multiple calls around 11:50 p.m. from people saying the bear was located in the Segundo student housing area near Ryerson Hall, Thompson Hall and Miller Hall. A campus officer who arrived two minutes later gave updated locations for officers. At this point, the university used its Aggie Alert text and app-based notifications to warn students not to approach the bear and to call police if they spotted it. The bear then moved on in the direction of the Primero Grove housing complex, back through Thompson Hall and then around the ARC building onto the side facing La Rue Road, UC Davis police said. It continued down Dairy Road and across Hutchinson Field, through the Colleges dorms and was last seen jumping a fence into the Student Farm area along Extension Center Drive, UC Davis police said. Fish and Game and Yolo County Animal Control responded, but were unable to find the bear with a drone.UC Davis police said that Fish and Game told them the bear is believed to be a juvenile who has been spotted multiple times from Vacaville to Dixon. The bear is believed to have left the area, UC Davis police said.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel | Make KCRA a preferred news source in Google

A bear was spotted walking in Davis and onto the UC Davis campus on Thursday night.

A UC Davis spokesperson said police received multiple calls as the bear worked its way across the campus and encountered multiple students over the course of nearly two hours.
