A day after his end-of-the-season press conference, Danny Briere re-signed one of his restricted free agents.<\/p>\n
The Flyers inked Aleksei Kolosov to a one-year, $850,000 contract extension Friday. The 24-year-old goaltender will remain a restricted free agent when the deal expires.<\/p>\n
Kolosov played in four games for the Flyers this season. He went 0-2-0 with a 4.00 goals-against average and an .830 save percentage. Last season, he made 17 appearances, going 5-9-1 with a 3.59 goals-against average and an .867 save percentage.<\/p>\n
With AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley this season, Kolosov finished 15-21-2 while posting a 2.98 goals-against average, an .895 save percentage and two shutouts.<\/p>\n
Next season, the 2021 third-round pick is projected to be in a tandem again with Carson Bjarnason, a 2023 second-rounder who turns 21 years old next month.<\/p>\n
Kolosov will try to earn more games with the Flyers. The club’s backup situation could change this offseason. Samuel Ersson is also a restricted free agent, which makes his future uncertain.<\/p>\n
This season, at the Olympic break, Ersson was just 8-10-5 with a 3.51 goals-against average and an .856 save percentage. But the 26-year-old was excellent after the break, going 6-1-0 with a 1.99 goals-against average and .912 save percentage.<\/p>\n
“With Sam, we have to evaluate,” Briere said Thursday. “Look, it was a tough start for Sam, but we also have to give him credit, the way he stuck with it, the way he found a way to bounce back, to win some really big games down the road to get into the playoffs. That was impressive, that wasn’t easy.<\/p>\n
“First of all, he’s a great teammate, the guys love him, he has been here for a while, we’ve invested a lot of years in him. We want to sit down and discuss, but he was a big part of this team this year. We’ll see where it leads.”<\/p>\n
In the Flyers’ goaltending pipeline, Egor Zavragin has another year on his KHL contract with SKA St. Petersburg. The Flyers selected the 20-year-old prospect in the third round of the 2023 draft.<\/p>\n
