Daniel Svensson<\/a> was one of two new faces in the line-up from the match against Frankfurt (3-2)<\/a>, and he set up an early triple chance by winning the ball high up in Bremen\u2019s half. Guirassy<\/a> didn\u2019t hesitate to take a shot and Werder goalkeeper Mio Backhaus<\/a> could only parry the shot back out and then produced a brilliant save to tip Samuele Inacio<\/a>\u2019s follow-up from 15 yards onto the post. Jobe Bellingham<\/a> fired the second rebound just wide of the left-hand post (6). Shortly afterwards, Maxi Beier won the ball on the right wing and Guirassy forced Backhaus into another save from six yards out as the keeper acrobatically tipped the ball over the crossbar (7).<\/p>\n

Werder frequently played long balls, but there were a few moments of excitement in the BVB penalty area, such as in the 19th minute when Borussia struggled to clear the ball, or Amos Pieper<\/a>\u2019s headed goal from an offside position (28). The second half kicked off in much the same vein as Felix Nmecha<\/a> launched an attack from the centre circle with a long pass to Inacio, who laid the ball off to Guirassy. He then found himself on the right-hand side of the penalty area and attempted to slot the ball past the left of the onrushing Backhaus. But Bremen\u2019s goalkeeper dived\u00a0 incredibly fast and stretched his right arm far enough out to make a superb save (46). By the time he had parried Guirassy\u2019s header (52), he had established himself as the best player on the pitch.<\/p>\n

Nico Schlotterbeck<\/a> played a long diagonal ball out to Julian Ryerson<\/a> on the right wing to set up the long-overdue opening goal. Guirassy beat substitute Friedl<\/a> in the six-yard box and headed Ryerson\u2019s cross in at the near post, giving Backhaus no chance (59).<\/p>\n

In the 72nd minute, Nmecha sent Ryerson\u2019s cross narrowly wide of the left post, missing the chance to make it 0-2. With nine minutes remaining, the ball was in the Dortmund<\/a> net once more, but Stage had been narrowly offside before Coulibaly\u2019s finish. Shortly afterwards, Kobel<\/a> was called into action against Mbangula. As the five minutes of added time drew to a close, Fabio Silva set a move in motion with a through ball to Julian Brandt<\/a>. The play continued with two further substitutes as Karim Adeyemi<\/a> squared the ball across the box to Couto<\/a>, who made it 0-2.<\/p>\n
