Last week<\/a>, we asked you to vote on the topic of Motorola\u2019s new flip foldables \u2013 the Razr 70 series or, as they are known in the US, the Razr 2026 series. While there are three models involved, we can come to only one conclusion.<\/p>\n

And that conclusion is that the new flip foldables are too expensive \u2013 each of the three (vanilla, plus and Ultra) has its fans, however, it would take a price cut or some other deal before most people would consider buying one. Let\u2019s look at them individually.<\/p>\n

The Motorola Razr 70 Ultra<\/a> (aka Razr Ultra 2026<\/a>) has the best shot \u2013 15% of the vote went in its favor and that number can grow with favorable reviews. Still, among those who want a flip foldable, most think that the Ultra costs too much ($1,500 \/ \u20ac1,400 \/ \u00a31,200).<\/p>\n

The phone uses older hardware (Snapdragon 8 Elite) and has a limited support window \u2013 Motorola UK and Germany say \u201cup to 3\u201d OS updates and \u201cup to 5 years\u201d of security patches, while Motorola US makes no promises at all. Even with the most generous interpretation of these timelines, the Ultra will become obsolete faster than similarly priced flagships. Moto already doesn\u2019t have the best reputation when it comes to updates and this isn\u2019t helping the situation.<\/p>\n

Fans outside of the US missed out on the Razr+ model last year and, while the 2026 Plus is available more widely, its pricing is no longer as competitive. The Razr+ 2025 was basically a re-release of the 2024 flagship with some improvements and it cost $300 less than the contemporary Ultra.<\/p>\n

Now, the Motorola Razr 70+<\/a> (aka Razr+ 2026<\/a>) builds on that 2024 hardware, though it doesn\u2019t change much. It replaces the 2x\/47mm telephoto camera (which was of limited use) with a 50MP ultra-wide and adds 500mAh to the battery for a total of 4,500mAh. It still uses the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which would have been a great pick for chipset if not for the hefty price tag of $1,100 \/ \u20ac1,150 \/ \u00a31,000. This much money can buy you a new Galaxy S26 Ultra and it\u2019s not far off an iPhone 17 Pro either. We understand why the $100 price hike from last year was necessary, but not why anyone would pay that for such old hardware.<\/p>\n

\"Motorola<\/p>\n

Finally, the Motorola Razr 70<\/a> (aka Razr 2026<\/a>) may be the cheapest of the three, but it\u2019s not cheap in the grand scheme of things since it costs $800 \/ \u20ac870 \/ \u00a3800. The pricing is an issue and the mid-range hardware has people leaning towards other Razr 70 models, anyway.<\/p>\n

Older models may be an even bigger threat \u2013 Motorola US is still selling last year\u2019s Razr Ultra 2025 (with 1TB storage!) for $800<\/a>. Yes, the exact same price as the vanilla 2026 model (which comes with only 256GB storage, among its other deficiencies). And in Europe, we\u2019ve seen the Razr 60 Ultra as low as \u20ac650<\/a> (for a 256GB unit).<\/p>\n

\"Motorola<\/p>\n

Why would anyone buy the new vanilla phone when they can have the 2025 Ultra, which isn\u2019t all that different from the 2026 Ultra? Actually, never mind the vanilla phone, why would anyone buy the 2026 Ultra when they can have the very similar 2025 Ultra for a lot less money?<\/p>\n

Motorola is undercutting its own offerings here, which makes them a tough sell. And even if it wasn\u2019t for that, people think that Moto phones have a limited shelf life due to the company\u2019s below-average software support policy.<\/p>\n
