The festival has indicated it will go forward with the tribute.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHere is Streisand\u2019s statement:<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tOn the advice of my doctors, as I continue recovering from a knee injury, I am sadly unable to attend the Festival de Cannes this year. But I am deeply honored to receive the Honorary Palme d\u2019or and had so been looking forward to celebrating the remarkable films of the 79th edition. I was also very much looking forward to spending time with colleagues whom I so admire \u2013 and, of course, returning to France, a place I have always loved. While I regret that I can\u2019t be there in person, I want to extend my warmest congratulations to all of the filmmakers from around the world whose extraordinary talent and creative vision are being celebrated this year. My heartfelt thanks to the Festival, and to everyone who continues to support and champion the art of cinema.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tRELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/gallery\/cannes-film-festival-2026-photos\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cannes Film Festival 2026 Premiere &amp; Party Photos<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFestival leadership confirmed the news in a statement which read in part, \u201cUnfortunately, the Festival has just been informed that Ms. Barbra Streisand will be unable to attend the ceremony at the Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Lumi\u00e8re in Cannes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn its original announcement of the award, festival leadership praised Streisand as \u201ca dazzling actress, an unparalleled singer, a force of nature, humor, and sensuality.\u201d Included in her accomplishments are two Oscars, one for Best Actress in 1969 and another Best Original Song in 1977. She is one of the few performers to receive an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony \u2014 though her Tony was noncompetitive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/05\/peter-jackson-elijah-wood-cannes-honorary-palme-dor-1236899550\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1236899550\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Jackson<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/05\/john-travolta-cannes-palme-dor-1236906474\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1236906474\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Travolta <\/a>have already received honorary Palms d\u2019Or this year.
