{"id":649632,"date":"2026-05-18T03:38:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T03:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/649632\/"},"modified":"2026-05-18T03:38:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T03:38:07","slug":"neymar-goes-ballistic-on-ref-after-inexplicable-error-on-substitution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/649632\/","title":{"rendered":"Neymar goes ballistic on ref after &#8216;inexplicable error&#8217; on substitution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brazilian soccer star Neymar became irate during a club match Sunday after an officiating error forced him out of the contest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The mess-up occurred in the 65th minute of what became a 3-0 loss for Santos \u2014 Neymar\u2019s club team \u2014 to Coritiba.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Neymar had been on the sideline receiving treatment when the fourth official held up his No. 10 to signal that he was being subbed off for Robinho Jr, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/cvgzk1y0xmeo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">BBC reported.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Neymar goes ballistic on the ref for a yellow-card blunder during a 3-0 loss for Santos to Coritiba.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It appeared that the club was trying to sub off Gonzalo Escobar and when Neymar attempted to get back on the pitch, he was given a yellow card.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian was apoplectic over the incident and grabbed the substitution card from the official, holding it up to the camera in order to point out the official\u2019s mistake.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Neymar was receiving treatment on the sideline when the fourth official showed the wrong number on the substitution board. <\/p>\n<p>At least he didn\u2019t overreact aye.. \ud83d\ude05 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9rjWTlagls\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/9rjWTlagls<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The 44 \u26bd\ufe0f (@The_Forty_Four) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/The_Forty_Four\/status\/2056043068650914217?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">May 17, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Broadcast video showed Neymar angrily pointing at the official several times and toward the pitch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Neymar did hand over the captain\u2019s armband to Escobar and left the field.<\/p>\n<p>Santos put out a statement on social media after the match over the situation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fourth official got the substitution wrong,\u201d the club statement said. \u201cThis was confirmed by the television coverage and by the note used by the officials during the substitution.
