A manatee was reportedly spotted<\/a> swimming in a Cape Cod inlet on July 26, nearly 10 years after the last time the animal was seen in the area.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Stevie Petrucci glimpsed the large mammal swimming near Popponesset Bay while walking down the dock of his home in Mashpee, the Cape Cod Times reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just noticed something very weird and strange-looking that I\u2019d never really seen before, so I walked over. It took my brain, like, three seconds to realize what it was,\u201d Petrucci told the Cape Cod Times<\/a>. \u201cI was like, \u2018Holy crap. It\u2019s a manatee. What are you doing up here?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Petrucci\u2019s father, Stephen, told the Cape Cod Times it was his first time seeing a manatee in his 24 years of living on the Cape.<\/p>\n

Knowing the manatees prefer warm water \u2014 they like it to be above 68 degrees<\/a> \u2014 Stephen Petrucci was taken aback by seeing one.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew exactly what it was as soon as I saw it,\u201d he told the Times.<\/p>\n

In warm months, some Florida manatees swim up the coast, \u201cwith a few animals traveling as far north as Massachusetts,\u201d Florida Fish and Waterlife Conservation Commission wrote on its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
