In just a few days, Prime Video\u2019s\u00a0The Boys<\/a>\u00a0will come to an end. The final season hasn\u2019t really been what fans have hoped for<\/a>, with many airing their grievances about the show\u2019s problems on a weekly basis.<\/p>\n

One particular sentiment that\u2019s been cropping up is the idea that season five is too focused on Soldier Boy. Jensen Ackles\u2019 character isn\u2019t just Homelander\u2019s father, he\u2019s also going to be headlining the Vought Rising\u00a0spinoff due next year, and a recent episode featured Bombsight<\/a>, another main character from that show. As such, many fans have speculated that crucial plot development in The Boys\u2019 final season is being ignored to set up Vought Rising but, in a new interview with The Watch podcast<\/a> (via IGN<\/a>), show creator Eric Kripke argued that nothing is being sacrificed. Instead, he said, the show is just taking advantage of having a fleshed out universe.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had this notion of V-One as a McGuffin, and we knew Soldier Boy would be a character this season,\u201d Kripke said. \u201c\u2026So we wondered what was it about whatever he and Stormfront had that made them immortal.\u201d After coming up with V-One, the team checked with Vought\u00a0showrunner Paul Grellong about that show\u2019s plans for Bombsight, and they realized there was an opportunity to tie the shows together. As Kripke noted, any \u201crando old hero\u201d could\u2019ve had V-One, or the Boys\u00a0team could insert someone who was already on the cast sheet.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you do enough that you can touch on it, but not so much you feel like it\u2019s homework or just a commercial?\u201d asked Kripke about Bombsight. \u201c[Adding him] was pretty organic, and not any craven commercialism in there. We have these pieces, so if we\u2019re able to use them, why not?\u201d<\/p>\n

Any actual setup going down in The Boys\u2019 final season, Kripke said, is to ensure the finale gives fans what they want \u201cin some interesting and surprising ways.\u201d We\u2019ll find out if the show succeeds and converts its detractors this Wednesday, May 20.<\/p>\n
