(7News) \u2014 A<a href=\"https:\/\/wjla.com\/topic\/sterling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> Sterling<\/a> resident opened his front door Monday morning to a startling sight: a peacock staring right back at him.<\/p>\n<p> John Jones said he was checking on Amazon packages when he made the discovery.<\/p>\n<p>Jones told 7News he believes the peacock is a lost pet, noting the bird seemed frightened. <\/p>\n<p>Although  frightened, the bird also seemed remarkably comfortable in Jones&#8217; backyard.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He wouldn&#8217;t go away! And so, he was hanging until now. So he&#8217;s been here for three and a half hours,&#8221; Jones laughed. <\/p>\n<p>Jones said he made several calls to wildlife services, but no one seemed to know what to do with a peacock. <\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Jones looked up what to feed peacocks. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Well, he&#8217;s got food. Like I said, I looked it up, they love sunflower seeds, and so that&#8217;s what I feed the birds, and he&#8217;s got water, so he can hang. He won&#8217;t go hungry,&#8221; Jones said.<\/p>\n<p>Jones said he&#8217;s now hoping that someone will recognize the peacock so it can be reunited with its owner. <\/p>\n<p>&#8221; I hope somebody sees this and they say, &#8216;Hey, there&#8217;s my peacock!'&#8221; Jones added. <\/p>\n<p>7News reached out to the Virginia Department of Wildlife and will update this report once we get a response. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"STERLING, Va.
