(WZTV) \u2014 Tennessee continues to rank as one of the most affordable states in the country for retirees, according to new research examining housing costs, taxes, and overall cost of living.<\/p>\n<p>A 2026 analysis from financial website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fool.com\/retirement\/relocation\/cheapest-states-to-retire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Motley Fool <\/a>ranked Tennessee among the nation\u2019s cheapest states for retirement, citing low living costs and relatively low taxes. The study gave Tennessee the highest possible score for overall cost of living and ranked the state third nationally for tax-friendliness among retirees.<\/p>\n<p>The findings mirror a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seniorly.com\/resource-center\/seniorly-news\/best-and-worst-states-to-retire-in-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">study from Seniorly<\/a>, a senior living resource platform, which ranked Tennessee as the third most affordable state for retirees overall, behind only Pennsylvania and Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers said affordability has become increasingly important as retirees face rising housing, grocery, and healthcare costs while living on fixed incomes.<\/p>\n<p>The Motley Fool study analyzed data including housing prices, utilities, transportation, healthcare costs, and state tax burdens. Tennessee scored especially well because the state does not tax earned income and continues to maintain lower-than-average living costs compared to many parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p>The report also found Tennessee had one of the lowest overall cost-of-living indexes in the nation, alongside states like Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.<\/p>\n<p>Still, affordability was not the only factor examined.<\/p>\n<p>Healthcare access and long-term financial stability remain concerns for retirees nationwide.
