DENVER \u2014 The Rangers hoped that shortstop Corey Seager\u2019s back spasms would pass after a weekend off his feet. Instead, they\u2019ll be without him for at least the remainder of this road trip. <\/p>\n
The Rangers placed Seager on the 10-day injured list with lower back inflammation prior to Monday\u2019s series opener against the Colorado Rockies and recalled outfielder Michael Helman from Triple-A Round Rock in his place. Seager, whose designation is retroactive to May 15, was given Friday\u2019s series opener against the Houston Astros off as a scheduled rest day before he reported the injury and returned to Arlington for further examination. <\/p>\n
Rangers president Chris Young said Monday on 105.3 “The Fan” (KRLD-FM) that Seager could return by the start of next week\u2019s homestand. This is the seventh time in four-plus seasons with the Rangers that Seager has been placed on the injured list and the first time he\u2019s been sidelined due to a back injury. <\/p>\n
\u201cA back is tricky,\u201d Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said. \u201cI\u2019m not going to push this thing where we\u2019re going to miss a significant amount of time.\u201d<\/p>\n
