{"id":652950,"date":"2026-05-19T19:31:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T19:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/652950\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T19:31:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T19:31:09","slug":"jaxon-smith-njigba-shares-video-of-typo-on-nfl-opoy-award-calls-it-disrespectful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/652950\/","title":{"rendered":"Jaxon Smith-Njigba Shares Video of Typo on NFL OPOY Award, Calls It &#8216;Disrespectful&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">Perhaps because the Seattle Seahawks were largely defined by their defensive dominance during the 2025 season, the NFL got confused about which award Jaxon Smith-Njigba should have received for his performance. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">Smith-Njigba shared a photo of his &#8220;NFL Defensive Player of the Year&#8221; trophy after he was named the league&#8217;s 2025 Offensive Player of the Year in February. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">&#8220;The league made the mistake,&#8221; NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy <a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong css-lu48cp\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7291490\/2026\/05\/19\/jaxon-smith-njigba-trophy-offensive-player-of-the-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">said<\/a>. &#8220;We sincerely apologize to Jaxon for the error and are in the process of creating and shipping him a new trophy. Of course, like the teams he played against this year, we know how great an offensive player he is. We just had a problem spelling it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">Smith-Njigba was honored as Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 1,793 receiving yards on 119 receptions. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">Despite the mix up, Smith-Njigba did add a lot of hardware to his trophy case that it can be hard to keep track of it all.
