The <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/25\/techcrunch-reference-guide-to-security-terminology\/#end-to-end-encryption\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">end-to-end encryption<\/a> feature means that Discord users can now communicate privately without anyone else being able to listen in to their calls, not even Discord.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a major privacy win for the community\u2019s hundreds of millions of users, soon after social media giant Meta <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/clypzxl3lvqo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">pulled the plug<\/a> on Instagram\u2019s end-to-end encrypted messaging feature earlier this year. TikTok said it would also <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/03\/04\/tiktok-wont-add-end-to-end-encryption-to-direct-messages-report-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">not end-to-end encrypt user messages<\/a> after it became a U.S. company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Discord <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/09\/17\/discord-launches-end-to-end-encrypted-voice-and-video-chats\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">launched the end-to-end encrypted voice and video calling feature in 2024<\/a>, and on Monday rolled out the feature to every user, no action needed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEnd-to-end Encryption is now standard for every voice and video call on Discord, outside of stage channels. No opt-in required,\u201d said Mark Smith, Discord\u2019s vice president of core technologies, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/discord.com\/blog\/every-voice-and-video-call-on-discord-is-now-end-to-end-encrypted\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Messaging platform giant Discord has switched on end-to-end encrypted voice and video messaging for every user.
