\n\tThe\u00a0Testaments, which is a sequel to Hulu\u2019s smash hit The Handmaid\u2019s Tale,\u00a0is described as \u201ca dramatic coming-of-age story set in Gilead<\/a>,\u201d per the synopsis.\u00a0It \u201cfollows young teens Agnes (Chase Infiniti)<\/a>, dutiful and pious, and Daisy (Lucy Halliday)<\/a>, a new arrival and convert from beyond Gilead\u2019s borders. As\u00a0they navigate\u00a0the\u00a0gilded halls of Aunt Lydia\u2019s (Ann Dowd)<\/a> elite preparatory school for future wives, a place where obedience is instilled brutally and always with divine justification,\u00a0their bond becomes\u00a0the\u00a0catalyst that will upend\u00a0their past,\u00a0their present and\u00a0their future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tViewership for The Testaments<\/a>, like its predecessor series, has been strong. Season one has passed 45 million hours streamed globally on Hulu and Disney+, the streamers say, and it is not even finished \u2014 the season finale debuts next Wednesday, May 27. The Testaments has been growing its audience week to week. The drama\u2019s most-recent episode, number eight, drew 76 percent more viewers on day one than the series premiere.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Testaments, produced by MGM Television and 20th Television, is based on Margaret Atwood\u2019s book of\u00a0the\u00a0same name. It was created for television by showrunner and executive producer Bruce Miller and executive produced by Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Mike Barker, who\u00a0directed\u00a0the\u00a0first three episodes and finale. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to Dowd, Infiniti and Halliday, the series stars Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya and Kira Guloien.\u00a0Elisabeth Moss returned to the franchise in a surprise Testaments season one guest appearance<\/a>, reprising her Handmaid\u2019s Tale role of June Osborn.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Handmaid\u2019s Tale won 15 Primetime Emmy Awards on 76 total nominations.
