\n\t\u201cThe Roast of Kevin Hart\u201d is over, but Chelsea Handler<\/a> is still going after a couple of the comics on the dais.<\/p>\n

\n\tMore than a week after the live Netflix event, the former late-night host said she took issue with many of the jokes told by roast host Shane Gillis<\/a> and performer Tony Hinchcliffe<\/a>, calling them \u201cracist\u201d and \u201csexist.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI knew about Tony Hinchcliffe and Shane [Gillis] and their backgrounds,\u201d Handler told Deon Cole on his podcast \u201cFunny Knowing You.\u201d<\/a> She said ex-girlfriends of Gillis\u2019 reached out to her before the roast with information about the comic. When Cole pressed Handler for details, she spoke more broadly about Gillis and Hinchcliffe.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s just everything we know: that they\u2019re racist, that they\u2019re bigots, that they\u2019re sexist,\u201d Handler said. \u201cThat they think they\u2019re invincible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGillis and Hinchcliffe were among other comedians who told gasp-worthy jokes at \u201cThe Roast of Kevin Hart.\u201d Handler called out one particular joke from Gillis in which he said Hart is \u201cso short, you\u2019d have to lynch him from a bonsai tree.\u201d (Gillis quipped on stage that the joke took \u201cthree weeks of deliberation.\u201d)<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was gross. I don\u2019t find those jokes to be funny \u2014 jokes about lynching Black people,\u201d Handler said. \u201cLynching is not a joke. That\u2019s worse than rape. You\u2019re not joking about rape, are you? \u2026 You know you can\u2019t do that, but you can say \u2018lynching\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGillis and Hinchcliffe also made jokes about fellow roast comic Sheryl Underwood\u2019s late husband, who died by suicide in 1990. Gillis qualified his jokes by assuring the audience that he called Underwood ahead of time to clear the topic with her.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI found them making fun of Sheryl Underwood\u2019s dead husband who committed suicide [gross],\u201d Handler said. \u201cIf she says she\u2019s fine with that, she\u2019s fine with that. I wasn\u2019t fine with that. I thought that was disgusting, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe added, \u201cThere was so much disgustingness. I knew it was going to be such a gross vibe that I would be able to elevate it, no problem. \u2026 Kevin didn\u2019t deserve that. He deserved an elevated roast.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn response to her comments, Gillis issued the following statement to Variety: \u201cThis is a big moment for Chelsea. I am glad she\u2019s capitalizing. Good for her. We\u2019re all rooting for her. Anyway, come see me July 17th at the football stadium in Philly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA few hours after Cole\u2019s podcast episode with Handler launched, Gillis posted an episode<\/a> of his own podcast with Underwood. The two bonded over their roast experiences, and Underwood reaffirmed that she took no offense to the jokes about her late husband.<\/p>\n
