\t\t\t\t\t\tCONCORD, N.H. \u2014 \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

The director of the Sununu Youth Services Center has resigned, Gov. Kelly Ayotte announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Joshua Nye\u2019s resignation is effective immediately.<\/p>\n

Ayotte made the announcement during a media availability on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve just learned from the commissioner of Health and Human Services that the head of that facility has submitted his resignation. That was effective immediately, so he will no longer be leading that organization. We\u2019ll have to find a good leader to obviously have that role. It\u2019s a very important role,\u201d Ayotte said.<\/p>\n

Nye\u2019s resignation comes one day after lawmakers gathered to review possible changes at the center<\/a> following investigations into recent reports of alleged abuse and neglect at the facility.<\/p>\n

Lawmakers on Tuesday called for new leadership, better incident documentation, a review of camera operations and staff training, as well as giving greater oversight authority to the Office of the Child Advocate.<\/p>\n

The review follows reports of improper restraints, lockdowns and concerns about conditions inside the facility. Last month, the Office of the Child Advocate announced it was increasing oversight at the Youth Services Center, while the Attorney General’s Office said it’s working with the Department of Health and Human Services and the oversight commission to review the concerns.<\/p>\n

Last week, Marie Noonan, the director of the state Division for Children, Youth and Families, said in a statement that “many” of the recent allegations have “not been substantiated.” Read the full DCYF director’s statement below:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to the safety and well-being of the youth at SYSC and the staff who serve them. Youth at the Sununu Youth Services Center are court-detained or committed and often present complex behavioral needs. Staff carry out this work with professionalism, compassion, and a focus on rehabilitation and youth success.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany recent allegations about the facility since January have not been substantiated upon further review and, in several instances, reflect preliminary or incomplete information that does not capture the full factual record. Claims that have circulated publicly, including denial of basic needs and certain injury accounts, have in some cases been corrected or clarified as additional review has been completed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are cooperating fully with all ongoing review processes.
