The Los Angeles Rams find themselves at the center of multiple high-profile wide receiver conversations this offseason with trade buzz, internal uncertainty and lingering free-agent speculation all converging around Sean McVay\u2019s high-powered offense.<\/p>\n
The biggest storyline continues to swirl around Philadelphia Eagles star A.J. Brown, as NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reported the Rams were actually closer than most realized to landing the All-Pro receiver earlier in the offseason.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat was really close,\u201d Garafolo said on \u201cThe Rich Eisen Show.\u201d <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIt was closer than it got with the Patriots.\u201d<\/p>\n Garafolo added that at one point, a deal even looked ready to come together before ultimately stalling due to what he described as \u201ctoo many moving parts.\u201d But Garofolo went on to say he \u201cwouldn\u2019t be surprised\u201d if Los Angeles re-engages in talks once again.<\/p>\n A part of Garafolo\u2019s reasoning revolves around one of the Rams biggest stars. <\/p>\n The Rams were \u201cvery close\u201d to acquiring AJ Brown earlier this offseason. AP<\/p>\n \u201cLook, we don\u2019t know what\u2019s happening with Puka Nacua this offseason, and you hope for the best for him,\u201d Garofolo said. \u201cBut that certainly might be a factor at play here because you don\u2019t know \u2014 can you rely on him? We don\u2019t know what\u2019s happening off the field with him.\u201d <\/p>\n Nacua\u2019s offseason has unquestionably added some uncertainty to the Rams\u2019 receiver outlook heading into 2026, both because of off-field scrutiny and his looming contract situation. Earlier this spring, Nacua checked into a rehab facility<\/a> following allegations he bit a woman while intoxicated on New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n This capped a bizarre run of dubious actions which included appearing on a livestream with controversial influencer Adin Ross, where he made an antisemitic gesture, challenged the motives of NFL officials and questioned the legitimacy of concussions.<\/p>\n Compounding the uncertainty is Nacua\u2019s contract status. The breakout star is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is now eligible for a major extension that could place him among the highest-paid receivers in football. Talks have not yet publicly progressed, sparking further speculation about how the Rams view Nacua\u2019s place on the team<\/p>\n
