That’s been the theme in the early part of the season for Washington Mystics<\/a> <\/a>rookie center Lauren Betts<\/a>.<\/p>\n ALSO SEE | Fudd scores season-high 12, Bueckers adds 18 to lead Wings past Mystics 92-69<\/a><\/p>\n The UCLA product is coming off the best statistical game of her young WNBA career during Monday’s loss to the Dallas <\/a>Wings. Betts scored 11 points with three rebounds over 15 minutes off the bench.<\/p>\n 7News Sports Director Scott Abraham spoke with Betts after Thursday’s practice about building on her most recent performance.<\/p>\n “I thought it was just a really good opportunity for me to go out and compete. I was taking advantage of the minutes. I think for me just staying present, continue to learn and grow and just staying consistent in how I compete is going to help me moving forward,” Betts told Abraham. “Just trying to step up in my role and do whatever the team needs. It’s a different style of play and you’re playing against a lot of established women that have played in the W for a really long time. Just trying to learn and stay really focused on my process has been really helpful.”<\/p>\n Making that transition from college ball to the WNBA <\/a>is never an easy one.<\/p>\n Back in April, Betts led UCLA to an NCAA Title and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Days later, Washington drafted Betts fourth overall in the WNBA Draft.<\/p>\n Mystics head coach Sydney Johnson told Abraham that he has seen significant progress in Betts’ game since Betts joined the team last month.<\/p>\n
