Will Howard and Drew Allar, who have never appeared in a regular-season game, are the other quarterbacks on the roster.<\/p>\n<p>Rudolph expects the Steelers to have a veteran backup to Rodgers, and that veteran is him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.post-gazette.com\/sports\/steelers\/2026\/05\/21\/mason-rudolph-howard-allar-rodgers-mccarthy-qb\/stories\/202605210063\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">This is a veteran team<\/a>,\u201d Rudolph said, via Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to win now. You don\u2019t bring back Aaron Rodgers if you don\u2019t want to win now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rudolph, who turns 31 in July, has started 19 games and appeared in 31 since the Steelers drafted him in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to make a playoff push,\u201d Rudolph said. \u201cAnd I know that I can contribute with that veteran culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rudolph, though, knows he will not get as many reps as the other quarterbacks on the roster. The Steelers want to get Rodgers ready for his final season, while developing Howard and Allar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s kind of been communicated,\u201d Rudolph said. \u201cThat was the case when I got in [the league]. That\u2019s a normal mode of operation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rudolph said he will take advantage of every rep he does get.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Mike McCarthy has said the Steelers could keep all four quarterbacks on their 53-player roster, but either way, Rudolph expects to remain in Pittsburgh for yet another season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m here to learn my offense,\u201d Rudolph said. \u201cMy plans are to be here and to be on this team and to help in whatever fashion I can \u2014 and will.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Mason Rudolph was competing for the Steelers\u2019 starting job . . . until he wasn\u2019t.
