Inouye International Airport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the Hawaii Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity, an employee at the warehouse reportedly saw an opossum inside a shipping container around 7:45 p.m., on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The employee then sealed the container and alerted staff at the DAB Animal Holding Facility at HNL.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Staff members notified biosecurity inspectors from DAB\u2019s Plant Quarantine Branch, who responded within an hour. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Since the shipping container was fully loaded when the animal was spotted, staff were unable to capture it immediately.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Staff placed traps with food and water into the container and resealed it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The next morning, staff checked the container and found the animal in one of the traps. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Per animal and human health protocol, the opossum was humanely euthanized, and a tissue sample is being sent to the mainland for rabies testing. <\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 Hawaii News Now.
